Linda- is the best wife a man could ever want and have. She waits on her husband, supports him in whatever he does and she never questions, she's supportive of her family's decisions. she is strong. and is the one to help hold up the family. Her significance is to show the role of the mother to show how hard it is to keep a straight face when everything is wrong in her husband and sons. And to show that women are in fact the backbones in each family and how they pick up everything and literally help make things right and mend a family. Also how she gives up everything her dreams etc just for her family without a fuss, the true strength of a woman.
Happy- He is similar to his brother but different in a way. He is successful in holding a stable job in the world that his brother and father had difficulties in. he was a player when it came to the ladies, yet gullible when it came to his father's lies and blind to what the others around him saw and tried to explain to him but he couldn't see for himself. And the significance is to show that persons can have so much in regards to knowledge and be an educated dunce. For the fact that he may have a stable job, something his brother and father did not and needed but he did not have the real education or the true reality of the situation of how the world really is . the life lessons that his brother and father had to experience the true lessons of life.
Ben- He was rich, a successful business man and dead. his significance in the play was that only a small percentage lived the American Dream. And that you can not expect to come to riches like that. you have to take risks and explore and with time some luckier than others and faster than others.
Charley- he's loyal and understanding and a successful salesman. his significance was that others became successful by hard work and determination not instantaneously like some do. And no matter what happens he will help his friend in need and will always stick by him a true friend in need.
The Woman-she is a gold digger and her significance is that she only comes around when things are good and to give guys a good time to let them feel young then after draining them leave them.
Willy- He is a good father in a sense. He loves his children, but overlooks the bad things and important things that his children did especially Biff. He wanted to live the American Dream so much, that he lied to himself and his family to convince them that he was living the dream. And that same lie tore him apart and brought him to his downfall. His significance was that many men live a lie and try to live the American dream but, its the way the go about trying to be the American dream might even make u or break you and in this case it broke Willy.
I agree with Tonya description of the Loman family. I was particularly interested in the comparison of Biff to the Biblical prodigal son. I think there there is an depth look into how the Loman, however dramatic, does have a very real connection to the everyday man.
